Plan: Create a community-owned nonprofit wireless network, giving free internet access. Objective: Put in place low cost infrastructure to bypass conventional telcos altogether! Tools: off-the-shelf, dirt cheap 802.11b wireless ethernet cards, powerful omnidirectional aerials (not to the manufacturers' specification), recycled no-cost Pentiums repurposed as routers with FreeBSD.
