L.O.S.S. CD
Currently under curation by Access Space's Ed Carter, the L.O.S.S. CD is a project aimed at developing a new direction for music production and distribution. After an open call for submissions, a CD is being compiled of tracks by international artists using open-source software in the creation of their work. Furthermore, all the tracks will be released by the artists under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus license (go to www.creativecommons.org for more info), meaning the works are available for free distribution and development, whilst ensuring credits for the creators. Clearly, this is particularly relevant at a time when technology is the cause of such rapid change in the distribution and control of the recording industry.
The project also includes a website (http://access-space.org/loss - currently under development), where all the tracks will be available for free download. This will continue as a facility for people to upload and download tracks created with open-source software, who wish to distribute their work with Creative Commons licenses.
