The Words & Wheels Project
In November 2005 a new transport gallery opened at Kelham Island Museum part of a project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. In addition to this, we got funding through the Strategic Commissioning Fund from Yorkshire Museums Libraries and Archives Council. The aim of the fund was to give schools that don't usually visit museums the chance to work with a museum. The other aim of the fund was to create opportunities to use computers and the Internet in learning.
With these aims in mind we worked with Year 5 of Foxhill Primary school to create a website based on the objects found in the museum. The pupils created poems, adverts and creative writing for the website. They then designed pages for a website and working with a web designer created this website.
